Over 43,000 beneficiaries of the national health scheme (Gesy) have received inpatient care since its launch, the health insurance organisation (HIO) told the health minister in a conference call on Monday.

The HIO briefed Constantinos Ioannou on its next steps in improving Gesy’s services, as well as the effectiveness of its plan to combat system abuse which was drawn up last October.

According to HIO, between June 2019 and December 2020 over 756,000 beneficiaries visited their personal doctors and 574,000 have gone to specialist doctors for diagnostic tests, with over 606,000 prescriptions issued and 857,000 lab tests carried out.

From last June, which saw the launch of phase two of Gesy covering inpatient care, till December 2020 a total of 43,448 beneficiaries received inpatient care.
