Man to be deported for illegal residence

Paphos police have arrested a man for illegal residence in the Republic. The man was arrested on Monday in the village of Yiolou, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

It said that police investigations showed that the man had arrived in Cyprus in October 2019 on a student’s permit and was given the right to remain here until September 2020.

According to written confirmation from the college, the man has interrupted his studies and is not studying at the educational institution and has since then been in Cyprus illegally. The news agency said the man does not appear to have applied for political asylum.

He was arrested with a view to be deported the news agency added.
