A 79-year-old woman is the latest coronavirus-linked death in the north, as 40,000 more vaccines were delivered from Turkey.

Turkish Cypriot authorities announced on Thursday that the woman had been in intensive care for the past 14 days. She was also suffering from hypertension. This is the 17th death due to coronavirus in the north.

In the meantime, 40,000 more Sinovac vaccines arrived in the north from Turkey. This is the third delivery to the north of the Chinese vaccine from Turkey. Another 40,000 doses in total had been delivered last month.

The Turkish Cypriot side is currently in full lockdown following a rise in cases in recent weeks. The situation now seems to be stable with numbers of daily cases gradually dropping this week.

On Wednesday, 34 cases were announced among 4,880 tests while 12 patients were in intensive care.
