One death and 123 new coronavirus cases were announced on Sunday.

The health ministry said the death was of a man, 87 with underlying health conditions. The total number of deaths from coronavirus is now 221 with the average age at 79 years.

There are 87 people in hospital, 28 of whom in serious condition. Thirteen patients are intubated.

The new cases were detected among 35,241 tests, PCR and rapid tests. The positivity rate is at 0,35per cent, the ministry said.

In total 47 cases were detected through contact tracing and three were people who got tested privately.

Another three cases were among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs and two are people who got tested with rapid tests in private labs.

Sixty-eight cases were detected during 34,219 rapid tests given to the wider population at the testing sites in all districts. Of these, one case was among tests in nursing homes.

Forty cases were found in Limassol with the district recording a positivity rate of 0,44 per cent. In Nicosia, 16 cases were recorded (0,11 per cent), 10 in Larnaca (0,19 per cent), and one in Paphos (0,03 per cent). No cases were recorded in the Famagusta district among the 1,562 tests carried out there.

This brings the total number of cases to 32,513.
