This creamy Saag Paneer is a delicious Indian curry made from a mix of leafy green vegetables and fried cubes of paneer. It is gluten-free, easy to make, and pairs well with Indian bread like Naan or Paratha.

Saag is a popular Punjabi dish, whereby leafy green vegetables are puréed and then cooked along with a spicy onion tomato masala. If you like Palak Paneer (spinach only), then you will definitely love this creamy Saag Paneer that has a more diverse blend of veggies.

In this authentic Punjabi recipe, the dish is made of leafy green vegetables, along with tomato purée, onions and everyday spices. Once these are blended and cooked, crispy fried pieces of paneer or Indian cottage cheese are added, giving the dish a tasty crunch.

Note, if you can’t find paneer, you can substitute halloumi. Paneer and halloumi are not interchangeable, but can make acceptable substitutes for each other in a pinch. The main difference is that paneer is a high acid cheese and halloumi is unique for having almost no acid in it at all. High acidity and low acidity both help prevent melting.
