Coronavirus: Policeman among 13 caught gambling, breaking decrees

ΛΕΜΕΣΟΣ – ΛΗΣΤΕΙΑ ΥΠΑΛΛΗΛΟΥ ΕΤΑΙΡΕΙΑΣ

One of the people caught in Limassol gambling at a home was a police officer, the town’s CID chief said on Friday.

Lefteris Kyriacou confirmed on Alpha television that officers who raided the home in Ypsonas found one of their own among the 13 people caught gambling and violating coronavirus health and safety decrees.

Kyriacou said the officer has already been informed that he would be facing a disciplinary probe, apart from any charges relating to other offences.

“It is a serious disciplinary offence, which will be examined,” Kyriacou said. He could not immediately say whether the officer had been suspended.

Acting on a tip off, police raised the home after 11pm on Wednesday. Officers found eight people gambling and five others present at the time, including the owner.

They were charged in connection with the gambling and booked for breaking health and safety measures against the spread of the coronavirus.
