The Embassy of Japan in Cyprus announces the Japanese government will provide scholarships for 2022 to Cypriot nationals who wish to continue their studies in Japanese universities as research students for a master or PhD degree, born on or after April 2, 1987.

Duration of scholarships and coverage:

The duration of study for research students is two years or one and a half years (including six months of Japanese language training).

The scholarship includes the travel to/from Japan, the tuition, the student visa and a monthly stipend which also covers accommodation. This amount is set at 143.000 YEN (approximately €1.000) for research students.

Selection criteria:

The selection of candidates will take place in June, initially based on the evaluation of the submitted application documents and afterwards based on the candidate’s performance in the written examinations of English and Japanese language, as well as the personal interview. Japanese language proficiency is considered an advantage, but not a requirement.

The written exams and personal interview will be conducted on June 16 for applicants who pass the application documents screening.

*The schedule or process of the examination is subject to change, depending on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

*In case of rejection of the application, the embassy of Japan is not obligated to justify its decision. After the publication of the results, there is no procedure of re-examination and objections are not accepted.

Deadline for submission of applications: June 8, 2021

*No application will be accepted after the deadline.
