GPs have so far ordered around 20,000 vaccine doses, which they will administer to their patients without them having to go through the vaccination portal.

According to health insurance organisation official, Olga Pitsillidou, over 250 GPs are participating in the programme that only includes the AstraZeneca vaccine, which can be stored in a conventional fridge.

In the first week, doctors ordered over 10,000 doses of the vaccine while this week, an additional 9,550 doses have been requested.

The vaccine is delivered within two working days, Pitsillidou said.
