A further two people arrested in connection with the setting fire to a police patrol car in Limassol on Holy Saturday were remanded in police custody for five days by the Limassol district court on Sunday.

Two men aged 20 and 25 were arrested on Saturday after arrest warrants were issued for them after they were named during police investigations.

The police car was burnt at around 11.30pm on Holy Saturday. Officers in a police patrol car had seen some tyres that had been set on fire in the middle of a road in Limassol.

While police officers were directing people and cars away from the scene, they were set upon by a group of about 50 unknown people, who threw stones, firecrackers and Molotov cocktails at them, resulting in the patrol car catching fire.

The latest two arrests bring to five the total for the case following the earlier arrest of two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old.
