The vaccination portal was operating normally early on Wednesday with the majority of appointments booked in less than an hour, after technical problems were reported on Tuesday morning.

The portal is available to book appointment slots for coronavirus vaccinations for the age group from 25 to 26 between 7.30am to 5.30pm.

By 8.15am, 6,550 out of the 10,880 appointments were booked, the health ministry said.

Technical issues which caused delays in the booking process the previous day were resolved by 9am.

The problems led to the extension of the closing of the portal from 5.30pm to 8pm. According to the health ministry, some 7,545 people aged 27 to 28 booked vaccination appointments out of the 9,700 available.

Vaccinations will be carried out at vaccination centres in all districts.

According to the health ministry, the vaccination coverage is 37.1 per cent in Nicosia, 34.6 per cent in Limassol, 35.6 per cent in Larnaca, 40.1 per cent in Paphos and 33.1 per cent in the Famagusta district.

And Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou, citing figures from Our World in Data of the number of single doses of vaccinations per 100 population, said Cyprus was fifth among EU Member States.
