Coronavirus: Futsal Movement hopes for green light from cabinet

A planned demonstration at the presidential palace has been called off by the Futsal Movement after they were notified that cabinet will discuss their proposals on Friday.

Futsal pitches, which cater for the immensely popular five a side football, have been closed since November 30.

The movement had proposed that they be allowed to reopen on May 17 and have been informed that this will be discussed by the council of ministers on Friday.

In a press release on Thursday, the movement noted that they are fully aware of the ongoing crisis but have asked for equal treatment as many other sectors across the economy have reopened.

Ioannis Kounnas, of the Piacere Sports Club in Larnaca, told the Cyprus Mail that health measures and protocols can safely lead to the reopening of the sport – particularly in view of the SafePass being implemented.
