The buildings where we live and work can be as big a climate solution as switching to renewable energy. This is because our dwellings consume about 40 per cent of all energy, and too much of that is wasted.

In this video, Hal Harvey, an energy and climate expert, explains how net-zero constructions and better building codes are key to dropping emissions.

According to Harvey, architects and builders can lower energy needs with better insulation, more effective windows, higher thermal mass and overhangs. At the same time, continually-tightening building codes can unleash market forces to keep constructions slashing emissions.
