Paphos police said on Monday they arrested a woman for remaining illegally in Cyprus after her asylum application was rejected.

According to police, the woman’s 2019 asylum application was rejected in late January.

After receiving a rejection letter on January 28, she was given 30 days to leave the island but instead remained, living in an apartment on Tombs of the Kings avenue in Paphos.

The woman was arrested and is being held at the Paphos police headquarters, where she will remain until orders for her detention and deportation are issued, police said.
