Cyprus is expecting to be told soon of when the UNSG’s special representative Jane Holl Lute will return to the island.

Lute visited Greece last week and was in Ankara on Monday.

Presidential aide Victoras Papadopoulos said the UN official has already had contacts with Greece, Turkey, the UK and the EU.

“We are now waiting for her to inform us when she will be visiting Nicosia,” Papadopoulos told CNA on Tuesday.

British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab meanwhile said that he was disappointed that the 5+1 informal talks in Geneva failed to find “enough common ground”.

Even so, Raab said he welcomes future informal talks under the guidance of the UN – with the goal of finding a solution to the benefit of all Cypriots.

On the issue of the crossing points between the two communities, which have been effectively closed for most of the pandemic, Papadopoulos said the matter will be further discussed on Wednesday.
