Coronavirus: 68 new cases, no deaths (Updated)

The health ministry announced 68 new cases of Covid-19 and no deaths on Wednesday.

There are 38 coronavirus patients in hospitals, 12 of whom are in serious condition. Six of the 12 patients are intubated, two are in ICU and four in the High Dependency Unit.

A total of 31,124 PCR and rapid tests were carried out, meaning the 68 new cases indicate a positivity rate of 0.22 per cent.

The total number of positives to date is 73,379.

Of the 31,124 tests, 4,728 were PCR and 26,396 rapid tests.

The majority, 28 of the 68 positives came from rapid testing performed at health ministry testing sites, with four more cases found out of 313 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies.

Thirteen cases came from 1,554 samples taken through private initiative, while 206 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases yielded 17 positives.

Three positives came from 209 samples processed by hospital labs, while 225 samples taken through GP referrals yielded no positives.

In addition, 2,524 samples were taken at airports with three positives.

Four cases were detected through rapid tests in Nicosia (0.04 per cent positivity rate), 14 in Limassol (0.23 per cent positivity rate), one in Larnaca (0.03 per cent positivity rate), three in Paphos (0.10 per cent positivity rate) and three in Famagusta (0.12 per cent positivity rate).
