A 34-year-old was caught driving almost five times over the limit in Larnaca in the early hours of Monday after causing an accident.

No one was injured in the incident, police said.

The accident happened ten minutes after midnight on Archbishop Makarios Avenue where the 34-year-old was driving.

Coming up to a stop light, he crashed into the back of a car driven by a 30-year-old who was waiting for the lights to change.

The two drivers underwent a breathalyser test. The second driver came up zero but the 34–year-old was found to be almost five times over the limit of 22mg.

He was arrested and police established that he was using an expired learner’s licence, had no insurance and was driving without the consent of the registered owner of the car.

He was charged and released and will appear in court at a later date.
