Tempers flared at a vaccination centre in Larnaca on Friday over delays caused by the large number of people there.
Police were called to the vaccination centre at the port where 1,300 were scheduled to receive their Covid jabs.
According to the Cyprus News Agency, the congestion was caused because of people arriving at the centre earlier than their scheduled appointment. Apart from scheduled jabs with Pfizer and Moderna, people who had their AstraZeneca second doses rescheduled, were also there.
According to one Cyprus Mail reader the situation was “an absolute joke”.
“I went for my second vax in Larnaca. There was no social distancing. People were rammed like sardines. There was no queuing and little information was being given out,” the reader said.
He said at 10.15am they were still vaccinating people who had appointments for 9am. When he got inside, he added, it was empty so he sat in a chair but was told to move to another chair for social distancing.
“When I pointed out what was going on outside, they just shrugged,” the reader added. “For the first time since Covid, the only time I felt most at risk was today.”
