Police seek information after truck driver dies in traffic accident

A truck driver has died after a traffic accident on the Ayia Napa to Larnaca motorway, police said on Thursday.

Stavros Panteli, 65, was driving a large truck at around 9.30pm on Wednesday on the motorway towards the Rizoelia roundabout. Police said that under conditions still being investigated, the truck swerved off the road and hit a traffic sign and a utility pole.

As a result of the accident, the driver got trapped in the truck.

Fire fighters who arrived at the scene helped get him out. He was transferred via ambulance to Larnaca general hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police called on anyone who might have witnessed the collision to contact Larnaca traffic police on 24 804149 or visit their nearest police station.
