Police arrested an 18-year-old male in connection with a fire last Wednesday between the villages of Trahipedoula and Kelokedara in the district of Paphos.

The teen was arrested on Friday evening, hours after police detained a 22-year-old man for the same reason. Reports said one of the suspects has told police they set the fires after they were booked recently for various traffic offences.

The fire broke out at 12.50am on Wednesday. Firefighters arriving at the scene found four separate fronts.

Police investigating the causes received information that the two suspects had been involved.

The fire burned around half a square kilometre of wild shrub and trees.

Firefighters used eight aircraft and 11 vehicles to bring the fire under control.
