A car caught fire after a traffic accident on Sunday, which spread to the surrounding area, destroying 10 square metres of dry vegetation, the fire service said.

The fire, which appears to have been caused by a malfunction, started after an accident in the Lefkara area at around 6pm.

The family travelling in the car was taken to hospital as a precaution as a police patrol remained at the scene awaiting a tow truck to collect the vehicle.

At 7.45pm, the fire service was notified of a car fire, dispatching one engine and two water tankers to the area.

The fire destroyed the car and spread to the surrounding area, burning 10 square metres of dry vegetation.
