Two young drivers held for speeding

Two drivers, aged 20 and 18, were arrested for speeding in Larnaca and Nicosia, police said on Tuesday.

The first driver was caught speeding at 191kph on the Larnaca-Kofinou motorway around 11.30pm on Monday. The maximum speed limit on the motorways is set 100kph.

Police arrested and charged in writing the 20-year-old man, who is a permanent Limassol resident. He is expected to appear before Larnaca district court, police added.

In the second case, officers stopped the 18-year-old man at around 1.30am on Tuesday. He was doing 100 kph on Iroon avenue in Makedonitissa, Nicosia where the speed limit is 50kph.

The teenager was taken to Ayios Dometios police station where he was charged in writing and then released pending his appearance before Nicosia district court.
