Limassol police on Monday said they had arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting a security guard at a nightclub last week.

The incident was reported to the police by the 26-year-old security guard who said that at around 4am on July 23 an unknown man allegedly hit him in the face while he was working.

The guard lost consciousness and a friend transferred him to Limassol general hospital, where he was diagnosed with ocular and sinus fracture.

He was hospitalised at the surgical ward and was released the next day.

Officers identified the 21-year-old as a suspect in the case after an eye-witness placed him at the scene.

He was arrested on Sunday afternoon.
