Reggae at the Yurts

reggae at the yurts

Calling all reggae lovers, this upcoming event is for you. Yurts in Cyprus, a significantly different destination nestled in the valleys of Simou village in Paphos, is ready to host its annual reggae festival. On Saturday, August 14 three live bands will take the stage performing groovy reggae summery tunes all evening long.

Doors open at 6.30pm with the first band starting their set an hour later at 7.30pm just before the sun sets. The line-up includes Blackout, a 7-piece reggae and ska band from Larnaca. Formed in 2012, the band has performed in various venues in Cyprus, gradually building its audience. They have released two singles so far and continue working on original material. Their appearances are packed with dancing, amusing reggae and ska-influenced playlists. Expect music from the likes of Manu Chao, Koza Nostra, Loco Mondo, Bob Marley, Soja and many more.

Mr Wilson is the second band planned for the evening. This a six-piece Reggae Funk band was formed in 2018 and is based in Limassol. The band performs Reggae music with a funky touch and transforms popular songs into a Reggae style. The third band to play at the festival is Side Effects, a four-piece band featuring Stefanos Ioannides on vocals and acoustic guitar, Stelios Fragkos on electric guitar, Ian Richard Cole on bass and Fidias Ferekides on drums.

Besides funky live music in a unique outdoor venue, the festival will of course also sell beverages, soft drinks and street food. An impressive element of the event is that this will be a plastic-free festival with eco-friendly cups and straws and plastic bottles. So just remember to take your water flask to fill at the venue for free.

What’s more, is that festival-goers can choose to camp at Yurts in Cyprus for free or book accommodation at one of the nearby venues. The Facebook event (Reggae at the Yurts) includes detailed information of those venues along with instructions on how to arrive at the Yurts as it is a secluded spot. The rural ride there will be worth it though to enjoy some live reggae music at Paphos’ Sarama valley.
