Akel MEP says Turkish Cypriots discriminated against at airport

Akel MEP Niyazi Kizilyurek took to social media on Tuesday to decry what he said was discriminatory behaviour faced by Turkish Cypriots at Larnaca airport.

He said that he witnessed an official at the airport saying that they had “sent back” Turkish Cypriots travellers with coronavirus tests from the north and who were not permitted to board their flights.

Kizilyurek said that the behaviour was “clearly ideological”.

He further stated that the official was unaware that Turkish Cypriots cross into the government-controlled areas with those same PCR tests.

The MEP said that he has received similar reports at an increasingly level from other Turkish Cypriots.

He also called on Health Minister Michalis Hadjipantelas to immediately clarify the Republic’s policy and to issue the relevant orders so that the Turkish Cypriots are not hindered.
