Pope Francis confirmed that he is set to visit Cyprus during a tour of other European countries later this year, marking the first papal visit since 2010.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Radio Cope on Wednesday, Francis said that he has chosen to visit the smaller European nations.

“I first visited Albania and the smaller nations followed,” he said, adding that “now I have scheduled a visit to Slovakia and Greece will follow, Cyprus and Malta.”

The last papal visit to Cyprus took place in 2010 when Pope Benedict XVI arrived for a three-day visit.

The visit is due to take place at the start of December.
