In this video for Vogue, its legendary editor-in-chief Anna Wintour talks about some of the greatest looks from previous years at the famed Met Gala.

Wintour discusses everything from her favourite Met outfits and guests, to the best afterparties – including one deejayed by media mogul Oprah Winfrey.

The Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball, is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. Each year’s event celebrates the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition; guests are expected to choose their fashion to match the theme of the exhibit.

Established in 1948 as a way of raising money for the newly-founded Costume Institute and mark the opening of its annual exhibit, the first Gala was a midnight dinner, with tickets set at $50 each. Building on the legacy left by former Vogue editor-in-chief Diana Vreeland as “special consultant” to the Costume Institute, since 1973 the Met Gala has since become a luxurious, blockbuster event, considered “the jewel in New York City’s social crown”.
