Coronavirus: Booster shots continuing at ‘satisfactory pace’

The health ministry on Monday announced the booster jabs programme against Covid-19 for the vulnerable groups of the population was continuing at a satisfactory pace.

The vaccination with the third dose continued Monday for people 83 and over with the health ministry announcing that it was now focused on shielding the population ahead of winter and the seasonal infections that will occur in tandem with Covid-19.

On Monday, 1,706 people were administered the third dose at the walk-in centres in all districts while the vaccination of health professionals and people working and residing at care homes continues. Underway is also the procedure for appointments for the booster jab by people in vulnerable groups that were given priority for the third dose.

The health ministry gave reassurances that there are sufficient mRNA technology vaccines for the third dose vaccination for those who wish.

In addition, so far, 80.8 per cent of the adult population was vaccinated with at least the first dose while 77.4 per cent have received both doses.

As regards teenagers aged 16 and 17, 41 per cent have received at least the first dose and 35.5 per cent are fully vaccinated. Among the 12 to 15-year-olds, 26.2 per cent received the first dose and 18.8 per cent completed their vaccination regimen.
