Coronavirus: Ten businesses and 24 people booked for breaking decrees

Ten businesses and 24 individuals were booked during the 24 hours leading up to 6am on Friday for violations of decrees of the law on infectious diseases, police said.

In total 3,157 checks were carried out in all districts.

Eight of the 10 businesses booked were in Paphos.

The fines concerning the businesses, most of them bars and restaurants, were for the non-use of masks by managers and employees.

Five of the eight businesses booked in Paphos will be taken to court while the three other businesses were slapped with fines between €500 and €700.

In Nicosia, a bakery was fined €4,000 because it did not have anyone at the entrance checking customers for a SafePass while the manager of a kiosk was fined €500 for not wearing a mask. Eight individuals were also booked in the Nicosia district.

Nine people were booked in Limassol, one in Larnaca and six in the Famagusta district.
