Coronavirus: 44 fines after 3,014 checks

Police on Monday said they issued 44 fines following 3,014 nationwide checks for breaches in coronavirus measures.

The checks were conducted between 6am on Sunday and 6am on Monday.

Five businesses and six individuals were booked in Nicosia after 1,282 inspections, seven people in Limassol after 235 checks, and another seven in Larnaca following 550 checks.

Famagusta officers fined 16 people after 455 checks, while another three were booked in Paphos after 158 checks.

No violations were reported in Morphou following 98 inspections, police said.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out 156 and 80 checks respectively without any bookings.

Police said the main violation among individuals concerned the failure to wear a facemask.
