Woodland, California, is a gorgeously green city that’s been making a name for itself over the last few years.  From beautiful older architecture, a pride in the community’s agricultural history, and some of the most friendly locals you could meet, this area gives off the feeling of a small town despite being just fifteen miles away from Sacramento.

These are some of the perks that locals love about living here!

It’s known as the city of trees

Woodland’s name was chosen perfectly for the area.  There’s no city greener than Woodland, tucked away in countless trees, with every street surrounded by them.  The city has a large push towards eco-friendly activities and ensuring that everyone does their part to help this community leave as little of a carbon footprint as possible.

Woodland can be expensive

California is extraordinarily expensive compared to the national average, and although Woodland is in California, it isn’t as pricey as the state’s average.  Woodland apartments are far more spacious and affordable than those in Sacramento or Los Angeles, but if you line them up next to other small cities, the sticker shock might surprise you.  Fortunately, other areas of this city are more affordable, like healthcare and food.

You can go camping on your weekends off

Camping, kayaking, and spending time in nature are fantastic past times that everyone can enjoy. But, if you’re in Woodland, and you want to have a weekend of fun, you should consider Cache Creek!  This gorgeous 87-mile long stream offers rafting, river camping, hunting, and fishing to anyone who wants to get away from the stress of your daily life for a while.

If you’re from a densely populated area, it might surprise you how much fun you can have in Woodland without having to leave the area!

There’s a lot of pride in agricultural history

Many people who live in Woodland make their money in agriculture.  Because of this, there’s a lot of pride in farm work and those who work the land.  This can be reflected in the existence of the California Agricultural Museum and the local Heidrick Agricultural History Museum.  This city shows off the long history of where it came from and strives to educate future residents on what type of community they’re moving into.

There’s fun for families

Many view this area as the ideal place to move if they want to start a family.  Fortunately, they’re not wrong!  The low crime rate and tight community feeling make this an ideal place to raise kids.  There are tons of exhibits and fun things to do for someone of any age!  One of the most visited attractions for families is Velocity Island Park, a water park that offers wakeboarding, swimming, inner tubing, and boating.

The main thing Woodland strives to offer is a great balance of work and play for anyone who wants it. In addition, this city offers a chance at a comfortable and quiet place to raise a family while still letting you live a short drive away from a major city.  It’s a great place to live.
