Coronavirus: Five-month old being treated in Makarios hospital

The Makarios children's hospital in Nicosia

A five-month-old baby is being treated at Makarios children’s hospital for coronavirus, paediatric chief Dr Avraam Elia said on Saturday.

Speaking to CyBC radio, Elia said that the baby was admitted on Friday and is in a good condition.

He added that even though the past few days have seen very limited cases entering the hospital, more are expected in the next few weeks as cases in general rise.

“Today the hospital is at 60-70 per cent capacity and there is a lot of movement, meaning a lot of admissions and discharges”.

Elia warned that this winter will be difficult as a result of other illnesses, adding that doctors are concerned about an increased rate of pneumonia and bronchiolitis cases.

Finally he urged parents to vaccinate their children for the flu, as well as Covid, as soon as possible.
