Coronavirus: 23 people fined after 2,857 checks

A total of 23 people were fined in the last 24 hours for violating coronavirus measures, police said early on Monday.

The fines resulted from 2,857 checks in the government-controlled areas, most of which, 1,055 were carried out by officers in the capital who booked two people.

In Limassol, ten people were fined after 218 checks, four in Larnaca after 614 checks, three in Paphos following 179 inspections and another four in Famagusta after 414 checks.

No violations were reported in Morphou after 197 checks.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out 156 and 23 checks respectively without any bookings.

Violations include failure to wear a face mask or carry a SafePass.
