Coronavirus: 19 fines after 2,589 checks

Police issued 19 fines during 2,589 checks for the implementation of coronavirus measures in the last 24 hours, it was announced early on Wednesday.

Most people were fined in Limassol, where officers carried out 247 checks and booked ten people, followed by Larnaca where three people were booked after 470 checks.

Two people were booked in Famagusta after 414 checks, while one individual and one supermarket was booked in Paphos during 154 checks in the district.

In Nicosia, where police carried out the highest number of checks amounting to 984 inspections, two people were fined for violating the measures.

Morphou, traffic, marine and port police also carried out checks without reporting any violations.

The checks were carried out between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday.

Breaches of coronavirus measures include failure to wear a facemask or carry a SafePass.
