Coronavirus: 12 fines after 2,211 checks

Police booked two businesses and ten individuals for violating coronavirus measures after 2,211 checks in the last 24 hours.

The checks were carried out from 6am on Tuesday to 6am on Wednesday in the government-controlled areas.

Most of them, 1,087, were carried out in the capital where one business owner and two individuals were fined, while five people and one establishment were booked in Limassol after just 203 checks, police said.

In Larnaca, 384 checks were carried out and one person was booked, while another person was fined in Paphos after 116 checks and another in Famagusta following 182 inspections.

No violations were reported in Morphou after 144 checks.

Traffic and port police also conducted 89 and six checks respectively, without any bookings, the announcement added.

Violations include failure to wear a face mask or carry a valid SafePass.
