More than 8,000 Covid-19 cases were recorded in the past 14 days, according to the latest national surveillance report released on Friday.
The report, produced by the health ministry’s epidemiological surveillance unit, said that 8,045 cases were diagnosed between December 7 and 20. The 14-day cumulative diagnosis rate is 906 per 100,000 population. The median age was 31 years.
By age group, cases included 2,433 individuals aged 0-19 years-old, 4,899 aged 20 to 59 and 713 who were 60 years and older.
Among all cases diagnosed in the last 14 days, district information was available for 98 per cent of cases, of which 42 per cent were reported in the Nicosia district, 23.1 per cent in Limassol, 18.8 per cent in Larnaca, 9.8 per cent in Paphos, and 6.3 per cent in Famagusta.
Most cases recorded during this period, 94.4 per cent, were locally acquired and the rest were imported.
As regards clinical features, information was available for 6,941 (86.3 per cent) of the cases recorded, of which 15.5 per cent reported no symptoms and 84.5 per cent reported at least one symptom.
Until December 22, in total 718 deaths were recorded of people diagnosed with Covid-19. Of these, 625 died from Covid-19, the report said.
This month (until December 22), 27 people died from Covid-19: seven in Nicosia, seven in Paphos, five in Larnaca, four in Limassol, and four in the Famagusta district, according to the report.
