The Paphos court on Friday sentenced a man to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to acts of domestic violence.

A statement released by the court said that due to the severity of the crimes, the judge had imposed the longest possible sentence. The man had attacked his wife with a knife on multiple occasions and verbally abused her for months.

“The woman was lucky not to have suffered more serious permanent injuries after the repeated attacks,” the statement said.

The woman filed an official complaint after having lost consciousness on two separate occasions due to the brutality of the attacks.
