A group of Russians living in Cyprus have called on their compatriots to participate in a meeting on Sunday to condemn the war in Ukraine and demand the withdrawal of Russian troops.

Members of the social media group have already participated in protests against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“Our group is growing every day, the Russians do not want this war,” group member Natalia Lillytou Boyko told the Cyprus Mail.

To that end, they have created a new blue and white flag for the “Russia of the future” that symbolises peace and freedom, Boyko explained.

The flag is similar to the Russian flag, but the horizontal bottom red field has been substituted with white.

“This flag is also trying to show the world that we Russian people are here to stand with Ukraine. We want to end this war and aggression.

“It is very important for us to support the Ukrainian people and say no to war and no Putin’s war,” she added.

During the meeting on Sunday, which will be held at 2pm at a coffeeshop on Molos, Limassol the group aims to reiterate their condemnation of “violence and hostilities on the territory of Ukraine” and have called other Russians to participate.

Last Sunday, dozens of Russians stood outside their embassy in Cyprus holding the two-coloured flag to protest the invasion.
