The met office issued a yellow alert for Friday night, warning of extreme low temperature in the mountains.
The warning is in force from 9.00 pm on Friday to 8.00 am on Saturday. It comes on the back of a yellow alert for strong winds that ended on Friday morning as Philippos weather system battered the island.
According to the latest warning, the minimum temperature over Troodos higher peaks is expected to fall to around -8 C.
Inland temperatures on Friday night are expected to fall to zero C while the south and east coasts will see temperatures of 4C and the west and north coasts temperatures of 6C.
Besides strong winds that uprooted trees and led to temporary electricity power cuts late on Thursday and early on Friday, Philippos has also brought snow to the mountains where a number of roads are open only to four-wheel drive vehicles and those equipped with snow chains.
