Coronavirus: One death, 2,716 new cases

The health ministry announced one Covid-19 death and 2,716 infections on Wednesday, while 27 patients with the virus are seriously ill in hospital.

The death is that of a 63-year-old man, raising the total death toll attributed to Covid-19 to 950.

The health ministry added that 202 patients are hospitalised with the virus of whom 27 are in serious condition. Of those in hospital with the virus, the ministry emphasised that 57.93 per cent have no history of vaccination.

Wednesday’s infections were uncovered as 72,788 tests were carried out, a positivity rate of 3.73 per cent. The bulk of the tests, 69,860, were rapid tests.

Notably, 1,317 rapid tests at care homes uncovered 14 positives.
