A 26-year-old man wanted by Bulgarian authorities is expected to be extradited there after he was arrested at Paphos international airport prior to his departure to Ireland, police said on Saturday.

The man, who was remanded for eight days on Saturday, arrived at the airport in Paphos the previous morning to board a flight to Ireland but was identified during passport check.

He has been wanted by authorities in Bulgaria to serve a six-month jail sentence after committing traffic offences in the country.

According to police, the convicted man was caught driving under the influence of alcohol and without a driving licence among other offences.

Police said the man’s extradition is expected in the coming days.
