A section of Tseri avenue will close to traffic on Wednesday for about five months to allow for construction works of the Nicosia ringroad, the public works department announced Monday.

As of 7am on Wednesday, the avenue will close from its junction with Pefkos and Spyrou Kyprianou streets near the GGS concrete supplier company for a length of approximately 500 metres.

Works will take place for about five months, the announcement said.

During the works to complete the first phase of the orbital motorway in the capital, traffic will be diverted to Spyros Kyprianou street and a temporarily traffic light-controlled junction at a secondary road.

The first phase of the long-awaited project is expected to be completed by the end of March 2023. It includes a 7.5-kilometre motorway connecting the Nicosia to Limassol motorway in the Dali area with Tseri Avenue as well as 10 kilometres of extra roads, three flyovers, and a main roundabout.

The transport ministry had announced the project will be completed in five phases with a total estimated budget of €350 million.

Upon completion it will operate as a ring road and will connect three main roads, the Nicosia to Limassol motorway, the road from Nicosia to Kokkinotrimithia, and the road from Nicosia to Palaichori.
