Man arrested for stabbing in centre of Nicosia

A 36-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night in in connection with a case of attempted murder of a 28-year-old man who was attacked with a knife.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon police officers had been called to the spot in Nicosia where they located the 28-year-old man, who had suffered abdominal wounding.

The man allegedly told police that while he was on the street, two people approached him and after an altercation, one of them attacked him with a sharp object. Shortly afterwards, the two suspects fled.

The 28-year-old was transported to the Nicosia General hospital where he is being treated. His health condition, according to the attending physician, is stable and out of danger.

Shortly after 10 pm Sunday night, a 36-year-old man, who is said to be one of the perpetrators, was arrested by members of the police, with a court warrant.
