Cars burned as hooliganism mars Apollon-Apoel match

A fire that that was started maliciously caused severe damage to a number of parked vehicles outside Tsirio stadium on Sunday night during the match between Apollon and Apoel.

Police intervened when fans of Apoel reacted to the sight of their burned vehicles.

At least six cars located in two different places in the parking lot of the former Pissarides department store were burned, the fire extinguished by the fire department.

A police riot-control unit intervened to remove the fans from the scene as tensions occurred during the departure of Apollo fans.

According to a police statement, strong police presence prevented further incidents.
