Authorities seize thousands of fake designer goods in islandwide crackdown

Over six thousand imitation goods were identified and seized by the police during island-wide inspections between May 9 and 13.

The inspections were part of a European campaign to control the illegal trafficking of goods in violation of the Intellectual Property Law.

According to a police announcement, “members of the department for combating intellectual property theft and illegal betting offences from the electronic crime subdivision in cooperation with customs officers, carried out checks on 24 premises,” Cyprus News Agency (CNA) reported.

A total of 6,724 products such as clothing, footwear, bags, hats, wallets, belts, mobile phone cases, toys, perfumes and other items were found on the premises.

On further examination, authorities discovered that the products were fakes.
