Larnaca set for six days of flood festival celebrations

After a two-year hiatus, the flood festival (Kataklysmos) returns to Larnaca with celebrations over the long weekend to be held on the Finikoudes beachfront.

Events will start on Friday and run until Wednesday, with visitors having the opportunity to attend a rich artistic programme including competitions of Cypriot poetry, love songs, ‘tsiattista’ (improvised poems) as well as traditional Cypriot dances.

The festival will start on Friday at 8pm with an inaugural parade and then greetings from the mayor of Larnaca Andrea Vyras and House president Annita Demetriou.

Two stages will operate at the same time, giving visitors a choice of what acts to follow, the main one in Kimonos Square and the second in Europe Square.

The main platform will host popular singers including Paola, Ilias Vretos, Stavros Konstantinou, Josephine and Panos Mouzourakis.

In the Garden theatre of the medieval castle, the Shadow Theatre Festival – Karagiozis will be hosted.

Furthermore, in Europe Square 13 traditional Cypriot professions will be presented with craftsmen explaining the process of making chairs, baskets, etc.

The municipality of Larnaca, as every year, will also organise events on the beach including canoe-kayak, sailing races and offshore boat races.
