The average gross monthly earnings of employees during the first quarter of 2022, amounted to €2,019 compared to €1,891 during the first quarter of 2021, according to a report released this week by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

This represents an increase in gross monthly earnings of 6.8 per cent year-on-year.

The service noted that during the first quarter of 2021, measures put in place by the Ministry of Labour to cope with the coronavirus pandemic resulted in lower than average gross monthly earnings.

The reason for this is that the figures only take into account the salary paid by the employer but not the additional funds dispensed by the ministry.

Moreover, the average gross monthly earnings during the first quarter of 2022, seasonally adjusted, are estimated to be €2,114. This reflects a 1 per cent quarter-on-quarter increase.

The average gross monthly earnings of male employees during the first quarter of 2022 stood at €2,150 and of female employees at €1,856.

These figures represent increases of 5.1 per cent and 9 per cent respectively, in comparison to the same period of the previous year.

The average gross monthly earnings for the first quarter of 2022, seasonally adjusted, are estimated to stand at €2,266 for male employees and €1,924 for female employees, reflecting an increase of 0.9 per cent quarter-on-quarter for both groups.
