Two arrested over attempted murder in Akaki

Two men, aged 21 and 23, were expected to be remanded on Tuesday in connection with the attempted murder of a 33-year-old man in Akaki.

Investigations started after police received information about an injured 33-year-old man in the Nicosia village late on Monday.

Police spokesman Christos Andreou told CyBC the man was assaulted at around 11pm when he was hit on his head and other body parts with a 40cm cleaver and an iron pipe.

He was transported to the Nicosia general hospital via ambulance, where he remains hospitalised in serious condition.

Media reported later on Tuesday the man is out of danger.
