For nine days and nights, choreographers and dancers that are based and work in Cyprus will present dance performances at public venues in Limassol town centre as part of the 19th Summer Dance Festival by Nea Kinisi. The festival will launch on Saturday, July 23 with an evening of film screenings in the parking area of EKA on Eleftherias street and until July 31, a series of free performances will take place throughout the town.

In a total summery mood, the festival will transform public spaces into a live stage as dance lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy several performances and happenings at pre-determined locations but also at pop-up spaces such as pedestrian walkways and squares, at seaside and urban points in Limassol town centre.

The Summer Dance Festival is funded by the Cultural Services of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and is organised by Nea Kinisi – Cyprus New Movement for Dance Companies, Dancers and Choreographers – with the support of the municipality of Limassol.

“The festival is an important institution both for the professional dance community and the city of Limassol,” say the organisers. “For nine days people have the opportunity to walk around Limassol and interact with artists and their work in special and unique ways. During the preparation of the works, people will have the chance to see rehearsals, get in contact with the creative process and interact with the artists. This festival is an excellent opportunity to highlight the culture that the dance community has to offer, both for residents and visitors of Limassol. In addition, the structure of the festival enhances the sense of community, while offering a way to see and get to know the city through a different prism.”

Participating in the 2022 edition is Konstantina Skalionta with her project 8 Days Outside the Promised Castle, which will take place at the Medieval Castle Square between 6.30pm and 9.30pm from July 24 to 31. Zoe Georgallis will present Choro-Grafia at University Square on July 29 and 30 from 5.30pm to 9.30pm while Alexia Nicolaou will perform This, You Can’t Name at Molos on July 26, 27 and 30 at 7.30pm. Finally, Maria Kasapi will also be at Molos on July 24 and 27 with her This or That and Marita Anastasi on Zik Zak street with her piece The Other Side on July 24, 26 and 29.
