Three men were on Tuesday remanded in police custody for eight days after 13.5kg of cannabis was found in two packages that arrived at Larnaca airport.

Members of the drug squad (Ykan) and customs officers identified two parcels that arrived from abroad containing 13.5kg of cannabis.

On Monday morning the 23-year-old who received the parcels was arrested along with a 22-year-old man that was with him.

Later a third suspect, also 22, was arrested after being stopped and searched by Ykan officers after attempting to run away with the drugs.

While trying to escape, he collided with a patrol car and was subsequently detained.

After searching his car, officers found a large quantity of cannabis and a large sum of money.

The three suspects appeared before Larnaca district court on Tuesday where they were subsequently remanded for eight days.
