Jazz, rock and wine at Vinylio Wine Etc

It’s live music season and the island’s bars are busy hosting musicians from Cyprus and abroad for nights of entertainment. Vinylio Wine Etc, a wine bar in old Limassol next to the Instagramable Frida Khalo graffiti, has several music performances planned for July and a couple more for August.

This Friday, the music at Vinylio will be all about the legendary ladies of jazz. Singer Alice Ayvazian and pianist Loukas Louka return to the wine bar with a special tribute to some of the iconic jazz singers of the 20th century. Their set, starting at 9pm, will be filled with music honouring the ultimate divas – Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Billie Holiday.

A few days later, another musical evening will take place but in a totally different mood. Joakem and Elias Chrysochos are an acoustic duo with songs ranging from classic and prog rock covers to original songs and psychedelic looping improvisations on innovative electronic equipment.

Joakem is a progressive rock and metal composer, pianist and vocalist and the finalist of 2017’s Voice of Greece, taking second place, who is currently performing in Cyprus and abroad. Elias (Kill Thanatos) is a multi-instrumentalist composer and performer who will join forces with Joakem on Sunday for an acoustic set at Vinylio.

Later on in the month, a wine tasting night will bring old world and new world wines to the bar for guests to try before August arrives with its musical agenda. Opening next month’s live performance is an indie, pop, and folk band from the Netherlands on August 5.
